Beth Shalom enjoys our beautiful biblical garden - Gan Gilner

VOLUNTEERS are the Lev and Ruach - heart and soul - of our garden. PLEASE become a regular Gan Gilner volunteer and help us make this year's the most beautiful garden yet! Gardeners and Gardener Wannabees! Please scroll dwn for more info on how  YOU can help in the garden. Thanks for visiting.

Beth Shalom is proud to have a beautiful garden outside the Social Hall that brightens our view and warms our hearts year-round. Gan Gilner, named for the generous benefactors who have sponsored so much of the garden, is a model biblical garden, with many plants that have biblical roots (click to read about biblical gardens).

The beautiful garden, which requires many hours of hard work year round, is under the guidance and constant attention of our hardest working gardener  -  Phyllis Kravitz. The garden improves and grows each year with new plantings, beautiful planters and an increasing number of biblical herbs.  Our newest addition to the garden is a lovely patio table with chairs, welcoming any guest to come for a rest, or enjoy a picnic lunch outside.
This Spring, 5769 (2009), Phyllis envisions adding a few small flowering trees (possibly almond and cherry), more herbs for Chef Dori to use in our kiddush and benches so that more members will be able to enjoy the lovely space. It also makes Sukkot all the more special as we enjoy all the gifts of our garden from our Sukkah.

Volunteers are ALWAYS needed - especially in spring and summer. Please contact Phyllis Kravitz or our Mitzvah Corps coordinator, Deb Sumner, to become a part of this incredible gift to our community.

Sundays in the Garden:
Can you think of a better way to have fun with your family?!

WHO:  Calling all mitzvah people!! You don’t need a green thumb!!  All ages welcome – no experience necessary.
WHAT:  Please bring your kids or come solo to help our CBS garden thrive. Chef Dori uses the fresh herbs for kiddush; we all enjoy seeing the beautiful blooms, the trees provide shade, it's a great place for a picnic, and it’s significant as a member of the Biblical Garden network.
WHEN:  Any Sunday morning when you have an hour
WHERE:  The Beth Shalom garden, back lawn
WHY:  What a great way to spend an hour or two on a Sunday morning – then go to brunch or jump in the pool!!  Do a mitzvah and teach your kids about how easy it is to help.  CBS and Miss Phyllis need our help.
Please bring garden gloves, water bottles, hats and sunscreen. We would like to set up a summer schedule with at least one or two families scheduled to help. Go with your friends - it will be fun.
Contacts:  Mitzvah Coordinator Debbie Sumner (770.390.0135) or our own "master" gardener, Lisa Stewart.
